University of Illinois Springfield Master Planning
Purpose
The purpose of the University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) master plan (2000) is to guide the long-range use and development of the campus. The campus is 745 acres with approximately 225 acres developed as roads, parking, buildings, grounds, and athletic fields. The balance of the land is maintained in cropland and limited areas of woodland. The campus has 19 primary buildings (42 total buildings) which include approximately 765,000 gross square feet (GSF) of space, of which approximately 135,000 GSF is for student residences. The original campus master plan for Sangamon State University (called the “Long Range Development Plan”) was prepared in 1970 and revised in 1973, 1983, and 1986.
