Kahua Update

The Kahua Administrative team continues to support the new projects in Kahua and the previously migrated projects. Support calls are scheduled 3 days a week and give university staff the opportunity to work through questions on their projects. Training materials are continually being updated and added during this phase as feedback is received to offer the most up-to-date information.

AITS is working with our Implementation Partner to prepare the final group of projects for migration to Kahua. The team will perform test migrations and data validation before the final migration of projects early in the new year.

UOCP and AITS team members attended the Kahua Conference the week of October 14. The team had the opportunity to meet and speak with other Kahua users as well as learn from the many partners and Kahua team members in attendance. Kahua conducted breakout sessions for customers to make suggestions for future enhancements, and they also shared plans for potential updates coming in 2025.

UOCP C+ Contract Reviews

As of October 17, 2024, a new workflow was established that limits UOCP and Legal departments internal review in C+. In general, any C+ generated documents that are less than BOT approval thresholds will no longer be reviewed by UOCP or Legal. The universities will utilize UOCP generated training materials as additional guidance. Universities should take appropriate steps to ensure each of these non-UOCP/Legal reviewed C+ documents are completed successfully. Training materials are contained in TEAMS under the Contracts + Document Review Guides, general channel.

Facilities Condition Assessment (FCA) Updates

The FCA is a System-led comprehensive building assessment for UIUC, UIC and UIS that will identify current deficiencies and building systems in need of future repair or replacement. CannonDesign is performing the assessments, and field-visits began in late September 2023. Upon the initial building assessment engagement's completion, expected in late 2024, information will be maintained in an interactive database. After 4 university CCU requested Amendments, which included added and deleted square footage of building assessments, the current initial assessment plan covers more than 26.3 million square feet of space across the System (UIUC: ~13.5M, UIC: ~10M, UIS: ~0.5M). Each university has provided CannonDesign with extensive information to help them complete their assessments, and to provide them with issues or deficiencies known or identified by university facility managers. UIC has requested a proposal for additional assessments of ~100,000 SF (likely to be completed in Spring 2025.

Field work assessments completed by CannonDesign through July total approximately 22.2M square feet across the System (UIUC: ~13M, UIC: ~9M, UIS: ~0.2M). CannonDesign data processing/estimating/prioritizing and university reviews in progress for some of these completed field work assessments.

Drone Surveys, including photos and videos of buildings taller than 2 stories, began in Spring 2024. This information is currently being saved in BOX for A23002 and is providing Cannon Design with information regarding their exterior building assessments to be included in the database. The following photos are examples from UIC 935 West Harrison Street.

Project Highlight – University of Illinois Health Specialty Care Building

The new $196.75-million, 195,000-square-feet UI Health Specialty Care Building (SCB) is the first new building for the university’s academic and clinical health enterprise, UI Health, since 2014. The facility provides a more efficient, comfortable and patient-friendly home for outpatient surgery procedures now performed within the operating suite at the University of Illinois Hospital.

Many of the top-ranked clinical programs under the outpatient surgery have seen patient increase. And as a result, it has placed a strain on the previous facilities. The new building is spacious and state-of-the-art, and it enables UI Health to handle increased demand.

In addition, the SCB will provide a platform from which to address the inequities of access on the west and south sides of Chicago. That inequity is at the core of disparities in health outcomes, which the university is aware of and striving to address. As part of the UI Health system and in conjunction with Mile Square, a network of federally qualified healthcare centers across Chicago and Rockford, the SCB works diligently to help those who have traditionally been underserved.

Completed in the summer of 2022, this state-of-the-art facility features specialty clinics, imaging and diagnostic services, pharmacy services, and is home to the Bruno & Sallie Pasquinelli Outpatient Surgery Center. The Bruno & Sallie Pasquinelli Outpatient Surgery Center is UI Health’s new center for same-day surgery and robotic surgical procedures. With an anesthesia clinic, eight procedure rooms, 24 pre-/post-operation bays, and a direct connection to the University of Illinois Hospital’s surgery center, the Bruno & Sallie Pasquinelli Outpatient Surgery Center is designed to provide patients with safe, expert care. Without the need for an overnight hospital stay and a potentially quicker recovery at home, UI Health has become a destination for robotic and same day surgery.

SCB is an important tool in helping the U of I System fulfill its mission, to serve the state of Illinois and improve the lives of its people. The project also serves as an important economic driver as the facility has already generated approximately 100 full-time jobs for the State.

The funding for the new facility also reflects a powerful spirit of teamwork between the university and the public and private industry. By relying on a Public-Private Partnership delivery model that includes a funding strategy, this facility and its programs have a deep and wide foundation from which to serve its communities.
